ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Mathieu Bollen is Pro fessor and Chair of Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium. He is world reknowned for his work on the role of reversible protein phosphorylation in the control of cellular physiology. He heads the Laboratory of Biosignaling and Therapeutics, where his research is focused on elucidating novel molecular signaling pathways, delineating their contribution to human diseases, and defining molecular components that can be explored as biomarkers or therapeutic targets. His group is currently investigating the therapeutic potential of protein phosphatase-1 and NPP-type ectophosphodiesterases, and examining the importance of methylation of Polycomb group target genes as a biomarker for different stages of cancer.
